'Cause tonight's the night the world begins again

" It's  (the ball) suspended there to remind us before we pop the champagne and celebrate the New Year, to stop and reflect on the year that has gone by. To remember both our triumphs and our missteps - our promises made, and broken. The times we opened ourselves up to great adventures - or closed ourselves down, for fear of getting hurt. Because that's what New Year's is all about: getting another chance. A chance to forgive, to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more. And stop worrying about 'what if' and start embracing what would be. So when that ball drops at midnight - and it will drop - let's remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other. And not just tonight but all year long."

This quote from the movie New Years Eve was said by Hilary Swank's character Claire and it couldn't be more true. There is something about the new year that brings even the most cynical of people hope. It's getting a clean slate from all the bad things that happened the previous year, it's a chance to leave all the baggage behind, it's a fresh start for most of us. But more importantly, I think it's the spark of hope that we all long for.

The New Year ushers in the unknown for us. It's a whole 365 days untouched, blank, and waiting to happen. I guess that's what makes it so exciting and worth celebrating for. It's 365 days waiting to be filled with memories, experiences, and opportunities.

So here's to what lies ahead. Here's to the new year, here's to the promise of hope, and here's to a brand new year with 365 days to make things right. Here's to 2012!

P.S.

The song "Better Days" by Goo Goo Dolls is probably my all time New Year's anthem. Doesn't it just give you hope?

  1. "Stop worrying about 'what if' and start embracing what would be" - beautiful! I haven't seen that movie yet, but seriously want to. I hope your 2012 is amazing! :)
